What's the Mata with Downing & Lennon? (Part 2)

Why we are persuing Downing and possibly Lennon for £15-£20m when Juan Mata is younger, better and available at the same price?  That question was first asked by KopTalkin' in What's the Mata with Downing & Lennon? and the question remains.

Villa have now turned down £15m for Downing quoting £20m cash as their asking price.  The world has gone mad!  What has Downing done to justify that price-tag?  He can't be worth more than the £17m the mancs paid for Ashley Young.

Mata has again shown his class and the Under 21s tournament, is far younger than Downing and is capable of far more improvement over the coming years.  Reports suggest that the Reds will turn to Mata following this latest rebuff by Villa.  I hope that's the case as while Downing is better than what we currently have, i.e. no left-winger, he isn't the quality player we need to be signing.

Come on Kenny, get Mata!
