Reds to increase Downing offer

Liverpool are preparing an improved £18.5m bid for Aston Villas Stewart Downing.

This is far closer to the £20m valuation Villa have made for the player and should do the trick.

If the transfer goes through it will be Kenny Dalglish's 3rd major signing of the summer and provide valuable width to the Reds attack.

While there may be better wingers out there, Downing represents proven Premier League quality and is seen as a lower risk that the likes of Juan Mata.

Dalglish has stated that he expects more ins and outs so Downing may not be the last name through the door.
