Sunderland sign Wickham

According to sources Sunderland have completed the signing of Liverpool target Connor Wickham.

The Black Cats are reported to have paid Ipswich a fee of £8m, which could rise to £12m with add-ons.

If this is true it will be another target lost.  Can we afford to lose many more?

Sammy Lee leaves Liverpool FC

The shocking news coming out of Anfield is that Sammy Lee has left the club to persue other interests. Rumour has it that Sam Allardyce wants Sammy as a first team coach with Championship side West Ham United.

You can't really blame Sammy for leaving to further his career but it's a major shock. The club have no commented on this development which may hint at something more to the story. The Reds will obviously have to replace him quickly, with either Steve Clarke taking over as assistant manager or someone else coming in.

KopTalkin' wishes Sammy all the best for the future and thanks him for his loyal service to the club. YNWA.

Meireles to leave?

As predicted by KopTalkin' in Got (Dead) Wood?  Raul Meireles looks like he's on his way out of Anfield.  Although some fans seem to want to keep him, he simply doesn't possess the quality we need to challenge for the title.  Would he get in to any of the top 4 teams' starting 11?  No.  He has a large sell-on value of around £13m and for a 28 year old, that is a good price.

He may have scored a few in quick succession last season, but he will find himself on the bench more often than not from now on.  Those goals are the main reason some fans think he should stay, but he is not a true goal scorer and I doubt if he will be able to repeat those feats next season.  Sell now and reinvest!

What's the Mata with Downing & Lennon?

So Arsenal have apparently bid £18m for reported LFC target Juan Mata.  Manchester City are also interested in Mata as a cheaper alternative to Alexis Sanchez.  My concern here is our lack of real intent to get this player.  Why are we looking at Stewart Downing when we could pick up Mata for around the same fee?  He's younger and in my opinion better than Downing.

Reports also suggest we are in for Aaron Lennon again at around £20m.  Surely we are not going to be able to afford Downing & Lennon.  Who would suit us best?

We need a left winger more than a right winger, so that's maybe why Kenny is looking at Downing.  He's a good player, who has improved a lot, but is he LFC quality?  Is he the 2nd choice behind Young?  I feel we should go all out for Mata then look at Downing if we fail.

Poor Scouser Tommy

Let me tell you the story of a poor boy
Who was sent far away from his home
To fight for his king and his country
And also the old folks back home
So they put him in a Highland division
Sent him off to a far foreign land
Where the flies swarm around in their thousands
And there's nothing to see but the sands
In a battle that started next morning
Under an Arabian sun
I remember that poor Scouser Tommy
Who was shot by an old Nazi gun
As he lay on the battle field dying dying dying
With the blood gushing out of his head (of his head)
As he lay on the battle field dying dying dying
These were the last words he said...
Oh... I am a Liverpudlian
I come from the Spion Kop
I like to sing, I like to shout
I go there quite a lot (every week)
We support the team that's dressed in Red
A team that we all know
A team that we call Liverpool
And to glory we will go
We've won the League, we've won the Cup
We've been to Europe too
We played the Toffees for a laugh
And we left them feeling blue - Five Nil!
One two
One two three
One two three four
Five nil!
Rush scored one
Rush scored two
Rush scored three
And Rush scored four!
Let me tell you the story of a poor boy
Who was sent far away from his home
To fight for his king and his country
And also the old folks back home

You'll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
